Section 908.4 is titled 'Roof recovering' and covers requirements for roof coverings. The mandate to cover existing wood shingles or shakes with one of several materials, where such existing roof is being covered with another roof covering that would create concealed combustible space is established. The purpose of this section is to slow the spread of fire.

The model shows a partial roof section with wood shingles being covered with glass fiber in preparation for another roof covering to be installed on top.
