Section 905.2.1 is titled 'Sheathing requirements' and covers requirements for roof coverings. The mandate for asphalt shingle roof coverings to be attached to solidly sheathed decks is established. The purpose of this section is to prevent roof covering component and water damage to the building.

The model shows 2 partial roof sections. The 1st is solidly sheathed; the 2nd has spaced sheathing (which is not allowed for asphalt shingles).
