R903.2.2

Section R903.2.2 is titled 'Crickets and saddles' and covers requirements for roof coverings. The requirement for a cricket or saddle to be installed on the ridge side of the roof of a chimney or other penetration more than 30" wide is established. The purpose of this section is to prevent water damage to the building. This section has an exception which exempts skylights from needing a cricket or saddle where the manufacturer's installation instructions allow it. The purpose for this exception is to allow for the precedence of a manufacturer's design and consideration for not needing a cricket or saddle.

The model shows 5 separate cricket examples, each with a 40" wide chimney, but a different roof slope and cricket height (which is covered under a separate section of this code. Only the wall of the chimney adjacent to the roof is shown for clarity).
