Section R804.3.2.1 is titled 'Minimum roof rafter size' and covers requirements for roof-ceiling construction. The requirement for cold-formed steel rafter spans to be determined in accordance with a table in this code, the allowance for a span reduction by use of a rafter bracing method, the requirement to convert ultimate design wind speeds to ground snow loads in accordance with a table in this code, and to use the higher of actual ground snow load or the wind to ground snow load conversion to determine rafter size in accordance with the table is established. The purpose of this section is to prevent structural failure.
