Section R802.5.2 is titled 'Ceiling joist and rafter connections' and covers requirements for roof-ceiling construction. The requirement for ceiling joists which run parallel to rafters, to be connected to rafters with a minimum amount of fasteners in accordance with a table in this code, where ceiling joists are above a certain percentage of the rafter height, for the ridge to be designed as a beam, where ceiling joists are not parallel to rafters, for the ceiling joists to be connected to top plates in accordance with a table in this code, and for rafters to be tied across the structure by certain methods is established. The purpose of this section is to prevent structural failure.
