R802.11

Section R802.11 is titled 'Roof tie-down' and covers the requirements for attaching the roof assembly to the supporting wall. This section contains no language, but has subsections which cover details for roof assembly to wall connections. The purpose of this section is to prevent structural failure.

The model shows 2 partial sections of a rafter connected to the supporting wall. The 1st shows a connection of a rafter to the top plate being done where the uplift force does not exceed 200 lbs. The 2nd shows a connection being done with a metal connector (commonly referred to as a 'hurricane strap'). The manufacturer must provide the specs for the uplift rating of the metal connector.
