Chapter 8 is titled 'Roof-Ceiling Construction' and covers the design and construction of wood and cold-formed steel framing systems. The purpose of this chapter is to cover structural stability, ventilation (to prevent premature degradation from moisture), the slowing of the spread of fire, and attic access requirements. The covering of roof-ceiling construction is addressed by chapter 9.
The model shows a common gable solid sawn lumber roof section with ceiling joists (including a framed attic access hatch) and plywood sheathing (with a hole cut in it for roof ventilation).
