Section R703.6 is titled 'Wood shakes and shingles' and covers the requirements for the grading and packing of wood shakes and shingles. A cross-reference to a standard is established. The purpose of this section is to prevent wood shakes and shingles from detaching from the wall framing and premature degradation from water intrusion through exterior walls into a building.
