Section R702.3.6 is titled 'Horizontal gypsum board diaphragm ceilings' and covers requirements for wall coverings. The allowance for gypsum board and gypsum panel products to be used on ceilings to create a horizontal diaphragm, and installation details of boards or panels and blocking, as well as disallowance for application of this section for rotation or cantilever conditions and for resisting masonry or concrete construction lateral forces is established. The purpose of this section is to prevent structural failure.
