Section R702.3.1 is titled 'Materials' and covers the requirements for gypsum board, gypsum panel products, related accessories, and adhesives. One of 11 standards which gypsum board, gypsum panel products, and their accessories must comply with, as well as a standard that adhesives must comply with is established. The purpose of this section is to prevent failure and premature degradation of gypsum board assemblies and to slow the spread of fire.
