Section R702.2.1 is titled 'Gypsum plaster' and covers requirements for wall coverings. The requirement for gypsum plaster, gypsum lath or base, and veneer plaster to conform to many standards, and for plaster to be a minimum number of coats dependent on base, type, and thickness is established. The purpose of this section is to prevent detachment from the structure as well as to slow the spread of fire.
