R609.6

Section R609.6 is titled 'Windborne debris protection' and covers requirements for the protection of windows and doors in exterior walls. The type of fenestration which requires protection, and a cross-reference to another section of the code which covers technical details for the installation of windborne debris protection is established. The purpose of this section is to require protection systems for fenestration (which is likely to be subject to windborne debris), to be able to withstand such windborne debris in accordance with testing standards.
