R608.9.1.1

Section R608.9.1.1 is titled 'Anchor bolts' and covers requirements for anchor bolts used to connect concrete walls to light-frame construction. The prescriptive diagrams for which these anchor bolts are intended, the requirement for bolts to have heads, an alternative allowance for threaded rod with a nut installed on the concrete embedded end in lieu of a bolt with a head, a cross-reference to another section of the code which anchor bolts must also comply, and disallowance for 'J' or 'L' hook type anchor bolts detailed in the prescriptive diagrams is established. The purpose of this section is to prevent structural failure.
