Section R608.8.2.1 is titled 'Lintels designed for gravity load-bearing conditions' and covers requirements for wall construction. The requirement for exterior concrete wall lintels that carry gravity load to conform to tables and figures in this code which cover allowable spans and required reinforcement is established. The purpose of this section is to prevent structural failure.
