R608.8.1.2

Section R608.8.1.2 is titled 'Vertical reinforcement' and covers requirements for wall construction. The requirement for openings of a certain width in exterior concrete walls to have vertical reinforcement on each side of the opening at certain locations, allowance for the solid wall segment reinforcement to also be considered the opening reinforcement provided it is placed in specific locations and sized as required by other sections of this code, where installed to comply with another section of this code for waffle- and screen-grid walls, the requirement for a concrete flange at certain locations in accordance with a table in this code, and where the opening is in the top-most story, for the reinforcement to terminate in accordance with another section of this code is established. The purpose of this section is to prevent structural failure.
