R608.5.1.4

Section R608.5.1.4 is titled 'Proportioning and slump of concrete' and covers the requirements for concrete fluidity and mixture used for concrete walls. The level of fluidity and mixture, maximum slump for removable forms, minimum slump for stay-in-place forms, and the standard to be used for determining slump is established. The purpose of this section is to prevent structural failure. This section has an exception which allows the Building Official to approve a bigger slump for removable forms. The purpose of the exception is to allow for alternative mixtures that are designed for use with specific types of forms.

The model shows a slump test being performed where concrete is placed in a cone of a specific size and shape, the cone is lifted straight up and placed to the side of the concrete, a bar is placed across the top of the cone over the concrete, and the measurement from the bar to the top of the concrete is measured, which equals the amount of slump.
