R606.6.4

Section R606.6.4 is titled 'Lateral support' and covers requirements for wall construction. The requirement for masonry walls to be laterally supported either vertically or horizontally by certain means at a maximum spacing in accordance with a table in this code is established. The purpose of this section is to prevent structural failure.

The model shows 2 nominal 8" thick solid or solid grouted bearing masonry walls with the maximum lateral support spacing highlighted - the 1st for horizontal support; the 2nd for vertical support.
