R606.6.2

Section R606.6.2 is titled 'Support at foundation' and covers requirements for wall construction. The allowance for masonry cavity or veneer walls wider than 8" to be supported by an 8" foundation wall, provided the foundation is corbeled to the width of the wall it is supporting with certain types of masonry, a limitation on the amount of corbeling, and a requirement for the hollow space behind the corbeled masonry to be filled with grout or mortar is established. The purpose of this section is to prevent structural failure.

The model shows a section of cavity wall being supported by an 8" foundation with the foundation being corbeled to the width of the cavity wall using solid brick, and the space behind the corbeled brick course filled with mortar.
