Section R606.3.6.1 is titled 'Bonding of backup wythe' and covers requirements for wall construction. The disallowance for masonry headers where the grout space between wythes is filled, and the requirement for metal ties to be used to connect multiple wythes together is established. The purpose of this section is to prevent structural failure.
