R606.2.2

Section R606.2.2 is titled 'Clay or shale masonry units' and covers the requirement for the manufacturing of clay or shale masonry units. A cross-reference to 9 standards which regulate different types of clay or shale masonry units is established. The purpose of this section is to prevent structural failure. This section has an exception which allows for units not needing to meet compressive strength requirements where used for non-structural, fireproofing purposes, provided it conforms to a cross-referenced standard for fire-resistance. The purpose of this exception is to allow units manufactured in a specific way to be used for a specific purpose.
