R602.3.1

Section R602.3.1 is titled 'Stud size, height and spacing' and covers requirements for wall studs. A cross-reference to a table which provides data for allowable studs based on several variables is established. The purpose of this section is to prevent structural failure. This section has 3 exceptions which allow for stud use other than provided for in the cross-referenced table. The purpose of these exceptions is to clarify that practical alternatives are allowed where specific variables of wall loading conditions are not exceeded and stud grade meets a minimum rating.
