R602.12.3.1

Section R602.12.3.1 is titled 'Simplified wall bracing' and covers requirements for wall construction. Using the simplified bracing method, the allowance for calculating panels which exceed the minimum required width as multiple panels, the method for making such determination, and disallowance for contribution of panels which are less than the required minimum width to the total required length, except as specifically allowed by another section of this code is established. The purpose of this section is to prevent structural failure, and offer a simpler method for the design and construction of wall bracing for buildings that meet specific criteria.

The model shows a simple wall with braced panels highlighted in two colors - one color is the minimum braced panel lengths; the 2nd color is the part of the braced panel which exceed the minimum required panel length and contributes to the total number of required bracing units.
