R507.7

Section R507.7 is titled 'Decking' and covers the requirements for the finish floor boards of a deck. A cross-reference to a table which provides the allowable span of decking based on thickness of the boards, joist spacing, and orientation of boards to joists as well as fastening requirements is established. The purpose of this section is to prevent structural failure.

The model shows 4 sections of decks. The 1st is 1-1/4" wood decking perpendicular to the joists. The 2nd is 1-1/4" wood decking diagonal to the joists. The 3rd is 2" wood decking perpendicular to the joists. The 4th is 2" wood decking diagonal to the joists. Note, the table allows for a maximum angle of 45° from perpendicular for the decking.
