R505.3.4

Section R505.3.4 is titled 'Bearing stiffeners' and covers requirements for floor construction. The requirement for cold-formed steel floor joists to have bearing stiffeners installed at locations where joists support loads, and the type, thickness (dependent on the load being carried), size, and fastening of such bearing stiffeners is established. The purpose of this section is to prevent structural failure.
