R406.1

Section R406.1 is titled 'Concrete and masonry foundation dampproofing' and covers the requirement for foundations that enclose interior spaces to be coated on the exterior side with materials for the purpose of preventing rapid water absorption into and through the foundation. Dampproofing is only allowed where the water table is not high or other severe soil-water conditions do not exist, otherwise waterproofing is required per section R406.2.
