Section R404.1.3.2 is titled 'Reinforcement in foundation walls' and covers the requirements for the installation of reinforcing bars inside concrete foundation walls. Requirement for lateral support at the top and bottom of foundation walls, and cross-reference to tables and other sections in this code for reinforcing bar size, strength, spacing, and location within the wall, based upon wall type and thickness, concrete strength, amount of unbalanced backfill, type of soil, type of forming system, type of wall being supported, and seismic design category is established. The purpose of this section is to prevent structural failure.
