R403.1.2

Section R403.1.2 is titled 'Continuous footing in seismic design categories D₀, D₁ and D₂' and covers requirements for footing construction. The requirement in specific seismic zones for footings to be continuous, interior braced wall panels in buildings longer than a specific dimension to be supported by continuous footings, and all braced wall panels to be supported on continuous foundation in a specific seismic zone is established. The purpose of this section is to prevent structural failure. This section has an exception which allows for interior braced wall panels to have alternative support provided other listed elements conform to specific requirements. The purpose of this exception is to allow for alternative construction which is deemed structurally safe.

The model shows a continuous footing, both for exterior and interior walls, for a building that exceeds the noted dimension in a seismic D zone.
