R322.3.2

Section R322.3.2 is titled 'Elevation requirements' and covers requirements for flood-resistant construction. In coastal flood hazard zones, the requirement to build certain structural members at or higher than design flood elevation, or, at or higher than 1 foot above the base flood elevation, prohibit certain types of construction and fill with limited exceptions, and cross-references to other sections of this code for details on the construction of elements below the design flood elevation is established. The purpose of this section is to limit damage and loss to buildings and structures due to flooding, which are constructed in areas prone to such.

The model shows a dwelling with an attached garage, with the floor of the dwelling highlighted to represent the elements that must be constructed at or higher than the flood elevation benchmark.
