Section R322.3.1 is titled 'Location and site preparation' and covers requirements for flood-resistant construction. The requirement to locate new and substantially improved buildings in coastal high-hazard zones a minimum specific distance away from the body of water, and where there are alterations to certain specific areas that engineering analysis must be done is established. The purpose of this section is to limit damage and loss to buildings and structures due to flooding, which are constructed in areas prone to such.

The model shows homes in a coastal high-hazard zone which have been built landward of the mean high tide.
