R322.1.6

Section R322.1.6 is titled 'Protection of mechanical, plumbing and electrical systems' and covers requirements for flood-resistant construction. The requirement to install mechanical, plumbing, and electrical systems above the elevation required in one of two cross-referenced sections, and to not attach such systems to certain walls is established. The purpose of this section is to limit damage and loss to buildings and structures due to flooding, which are constructed in areas prone to such. This section has an exception which allows systems to be located below the elevation required, provided the systems are designed and installed to prevent damage to them during a flood event.

The model shows a section of duct installed more than 1 foot above flood water which has risen to the base flood elevation.
