R322.1.3

Section R322.1.3 is titled 'Flood-resistant construction' and covers requirements for flood-resistant construction. The requirement to construct buildings and structures in areas prone to flooding using methods and practices which minimize flood damage is established. The purpose of this section is to limit damage and loss to buildings and structures due to flooding, which are constructed in areas prone to such.

The model shows a wall covered with gypsum board which has been subjected to flooding causing the gypsum board to absorb water and swell, as well as developing mold due to its propensity to retain moisture. This shouldn't happen if constructed in accordance with this section.
