R318.4

Section R318.4 is titled 'Foam plastic protection' and covers requirements for protecting a building from termite damage. The disallowance of certain types of foam plastics in specific locations of a building, where termite infestation is of a specific designation in accordance with a cross-referenced figure in this code, and a minimum height for foam plastics to be installed above grade in such designated areas is established. The purpose of this section is to protect a building from termite damage.

The model shows an exploded cutaway section of a concrete floor assembly which includes a foam plastic insulation layer, which is not allowed in termite infestation areas designated as 'very heavy'.
