Chapter 31 Overview

Chapter 31 is titled 'Vents' and covers the requirements for the components of a plumbing system used to allow air into the drain lines, which allows used water to flow in a steady and consistent manner (promoting the removal of used materials) and prevents traps from having their water removed from suction effects. The purpose of this chapter is to prevent noxious fumes from entering a building, inhalation hazards, and premature degradation of the plumbing materials, as well as to provide for an efficacious system.

The model shows a laundry sink with the plumbing vent highlighted.
