R310.3.2.1

Section R310.3.2.1 is titled 'Ladder and steps' and covers requirements for providing secondary exiting. The requirement for providing a permanent ladder or steps where an area well is greater than a certain depth, clarification that such ladders or steps are not intended to conform with another section of this code, have minimum width and projection dimensions, and maximum rung spacing is established. The purpose of this section is to require area well ladders and steps to have certain charateristics so occupants and emergency responders can fairly easily traverse them.
