R310.2.2

Section R310.2.2 is titled 'Window sill height' and covers the requirements for the bottom height of emergency escape and rescue openings. The maximum sill height above the floor and where the emergency escape and rescue opening is below grade the requirement for a window well which must conform to another section of this code is established. The purpose of this section is to assure emergency escape and rescue openings are reachable from the interior, and have adequate space for exiting on the exterior of the dwelling.

The model shows an emergency escape and rescue opening installed below grade, with the sill height which may not exceed 44 inches indicated, and a window well adjacent to the opening.
