Section R302.9.2 is titled 'Smoke-developed index' and covers the requirements for limiting exposed wall and ceiling materials to those which have a maximum amount of smoke it will produce. The maximum smoke-developed index for wall and ceiling finishes is established. The purpose of this section is to limit the amount of smoke a wall and ceiling finish material will produce.

The model shows a material being tested for its smoke-developed index and a display presenting the value. (The burn simulation has been sped up and the entire testing apparatus is not being shown in this model).
