R301.2.1.2

Section R301.2.1.2 is titled 'Protection of openings' and covers the requirements for protecting glazing in windborne debris regions. The requirement to protect exterior glazing in windborne debris regions, and the standards of protection for exterior glazing and garage door glazed openings is established. The purpose of this section is to protect glazing from windborne debris. There is an exception to this section which allows for the use of wood structural panels to protect openings which don't exceed certain dimensions. The purpose of this exception is to allow for a protection method which does not need to meet the protection standards due to empirical data.
