Part V Overview

Part V, which contains chapters 12 to 23, is titled 'Mechanical' and covers mechanical system requirements. Mechanical systems serve a range of purposes, including but not necessarily limited to, space heating and cooling, exhaust, ducts, combustion air, chimneys and vents, cooking, physical therapy, energy storage and transfer, and potable water heating. This Part also generally covers several different types of fuel/energy sources, however, fuel gas sources such as natural gas and propane are covered separately in Part VI. Masonry and factory-built chimneys are also covered by this Part, with most, but not all, of the requirements being referenced back to Chapter 10.

The model shows an air-conditioning condenser which removes heat from the interior of a building.
