N1102.3.5

Section N1102.3.5 is titled 'Sunroom fenestration' and covers requirements for energy efficiency. Clarification that conditioned sunroom fenestration must conform to this chapter, and that fenestration separating conditioned sunrooms with thermal isolation from conditioned space must meet building thermal envelope requirements of this chapter is established. The purpose of this section is to assure sunrooms are considered in the overall energy efficiency for the building. This section has an exception which allows conditioned sunrooms with thermal isolation in certain climate zones to have fenestration and skylights with a specific maximum U-factor. The purpose of this exception is to allow for sunrooms that use less materials for their construction, provided excessive energy waste will not occur.

The model shows a conditioned sunroom. If it is thermally isolated from the dwelling, the windows can have a U-factor of 0.45, and the skylights 0.70.
