N1102.2.10

Section N1102.2.10 is titled 'Slab-on-grade floors' and covers requirements for energy efficiency. The depth of a slab-on-grade floor relative to grade which mandates the requirement for insulation, a cross-reference to a table in this code that the insulation must conform to, allowed arrangements of insulation, protection of insulation, and an allowed exception to exempt insulation requirements where located in a specific termite zone is established. The purpose of this section is to mandate allowed arrangements of slab-on-grade insulation to assure baseline energy efficiency is achieved.

The model shows 3 partial sections of slab-on-grade assemblies. The 1st shows the insulation installed on the exterior of the building, using a combination of vertical and horizontal boards. The 2nd shows the insulation installed on the interior, using a vertical board and the insulation trimmed at a 45° angle at the top (which allows the slab to be placed directly adjacent to the foundation wall and completely protect the insulation - though protection of the insulation on the interior is not mandated by this section). The 3rd shows the insulation installed on the interior, using a combination of vertical and horizontal boards, and the insulation trimmed at a 45° angle at the top.
