R1006.2

Section R1006.2 is titled 'Exterior air intake' and covers requirements for providing combustion air into fireplaces. The requirement for combustion air supply ducts to terminate where there is outdoor air and at a specified elevation for masonry fireplaces, not terminate in garages or basements, and have the termination point covered with screening is established. The purpose of this section is to prevent carbon monoxide poisoning, oxygen depletion, explosions, the building from catching fire, and animals and large insects from entering the duct.
