Section R1006.1.2 is titled 'Masonry fireplaces' and covers requirements for fireplace exterior air supply. The requirement for listed combustion air ducts for masonry fireplaces to be installed in accordance with the terms of their listing and the manufacturer's instructions is established. The purpose of this section is to prevent carbon monoxide poisoning, oxygen depletion, explosions, and the building from catching fire, as well as improving heating efficiency.
