R1005.3

Section R1005.3 is titled 'Solid-fuel appliances' and covers requirements for factory-built chimneys. The requirement for factory-built chimneys which serve solid-fuel-burning appliances to comply with specific requirements of a standard, and to be marked with specific language is established. The purpose of this section is to prevent buildings from catching fire. This section has an exception for such chimneys which serve a specific type of appliance to not be required to comply with the specific requirements of the standard, and the marking to be adjusted accordingly. The purpose of this exception is to allow for an alternative chimney which has a low risk of starting a fire when used in conjunction with a specific type of appliance.
