Section R1001.4 is titled 'Seismic anchorage' and covers requirements for masonry fireplaces. The requirement for masonry and concrete chimneys in certain seismic zones and constructed on an exterior wall to be anchored at certain locations in accordance with another section of this code is established. The purpose of this section is to prevent structural failure.
