Chapter 9 is titled 'Fire Protection and Life Safety Systems' and covers requirements of systems used for detecting, alerting, and/or controlling fire, heat, smoke, carbon monoxide, and gasses as well as Fire Department operations. Of particular note, section 903 addresses automatic sprinkler systems which is one of the key variables used in chapter 5 to determine the allowable size, number of stories, and area of a building.
